PHILADELPHIA — March 10, 2020 — Rivers Casino Philadelphia Rivers Gives volunteers will team up with Cradles to Crayons to sort essential childhood items, including school supplies, at The Giving Factory on Wednesday, March 11. Casino Team Members will also quality-check and package donations for children in need throughout the Greater Philadelphia area.

Prior to the event, Rivers Casino Team Members donated dozens of new or gently used books, toys, shoes, coats, and clothing that filled nearly 10 large bags. Team Members will bring the donations to the volunteer day to further support Cradles to Crayons’ mission.

Cradles to Crayons is a nonprofit organization operating in Philadelphia, Boston and Chicago that provides children from birth through age 12, who are living in low-income situations with the essential supplies they need to thrive at home, at school and at play. Cradles to Crayons partners with 275 schools and social service agencies that identify families in need and distribute packages directly to them. Rivers Gives volunteers will donate, sort and pack items such as clothing, shoes, books, baby equipment and more, to help the 75,000 children living in poverty in the Philadelphia area.

“Cradles to Crayons is grateful for volunteers like Rivers Casino who sort and pack children’s items for our KidPacks, which we distribute to the 75,000 children living in low-income and homeless situations in the Greater Philadelphia area,” said Michal Smith, executive director at Cradles to Crayons. “Not only do we appreciate their volunteer hours, but the team’s generous donations help us provide hard to source items in The Giving Factory — each donation makes a difference giving a child in need everyday essentials to thrive.”

This volunteer opportunity is part of the casino’s ongoing community service program, Rivers Gives. Each month, Rivers works with a monthly charity partner for featuring and fundraising as well as having Team Members assist in a service project that benefits the Philadelphia community. This month, Rivers Casino is supporting Cradles to Crayons. Proceeds from Team Member dining specials in March will be donated to Cradles to Crayons in addition to the volunteer day on March 11.

“We’re honored to partner with an amazing organization like Cradles to Crayons for this month’s volunteer day,” said Emily Doñes, community relations manager at Rivers Casino Philadelphia. “Our Rivers Gives team is excited to visit The Giving Factory to help donate and pack items for children in need throughout the city of Philadelphia and surrounding areas.”

Most recently, Rivers Gives partnered with the African American Museum, where Team Members volunteered during Family Fun Day to celebrate Black History Month. For more information about Rivers Casino Philadelphia, please visit If you’re interested in partnering with Rivers Gives, please visit
