Seven-time Grammy Winner Brings the Soul to The Event Center

PITTSBURGH — Feb. 1, 2022 — A legendary performer who wows audiences around the world, Gladys Knight will bring her signature songbook and more to The Event Center this spring. The “Empress of Soul” comes to Rivers Casino Pittsburgh’s Event Center stage on Saturday, April 23 at 7 p.m. Tickets are on sale now and start at $39.

American singer, songwriter, actress, businesswoman and author Gladys Knight has long been one of the greatest. Very few singers over the past fifty years have matched her unassailable artistry. Knight has enjoyed No. 1 hits in Pop, Gospel, R&B and Adult Contemporary. She has also triumphed in film, television and live performances. Knight is known for the hits she recorded during the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s with her group The Pips.

She has recorded two No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 singles, including “Midnight Train to Georgia” and “That’s What Friends Are For,” 11 No. 1 R&B singles and six No. 1 R&B albums. Knight has won seven Grammy Awards, four as a solo artist and three with The Pips, and is an inductee into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Vocal Group Hall of Fame along with The Pips.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming the iconic Gladys Knight to our Event Center this spring,” said Rivers Casino’s Vice President of Marketing Shannon Redmond. “Our guests are in for a night of hits with one of the greatest singers of all time. It’s an honor to have her performing here at Rivers Casino.”

Georgia-born Knight began performing gospel music at age 4. Her mother, Elizabeth Knight, created the musical group The Pips, consisting of Knight, her brother Bubba, her sister Brenda and her cousins William and Eleanor Guest. Renamed Gladys Knight & The Pips, the group debuted their first album in 1960 when Knight was just 16. With Gladys singing lead and The Pips providing lush harmonies and graceful choreography, the group went on to achieve icon status.

Knight has recorded more than 38 albums over the years, including four solo albums during the past decade: “Good Woman” (1991), “Just for You” (1994), the inspirational “Many Different Roads” (1999) and “At Last” (2001). In her first effort since 2013’s “Another Journey” – Knight’s eighth solo effort – this summer marked the release of “Where My Heart Belongs,” a new inspirational gospel album. Knight is a two-time Grammy winner in the gospel category, and “Where My Heart Belongs” recently won an NAACP Image Award for “Outstanding Gospel Album.”
