WAR and The Family Stone Set to Kick Off Series on the Waterfront

PHILADELPHIA – June 24, 2014 – Legendary bands WAR and The Family Stone are set to kick off SugarHouse Casino’s Outdoor Summer Concert Series with performances during July 4th weekend. WAR will take the waterfront stage on Friday, July 4, at 9 p.m., while The Family Stone will play the following night, Saturday, July 5, at 9 p.m. Both shows are free.

WAR, the ‘60s-‘70s American funk band, is known for classic hits such as “Spill the Wine,” “Why Can’t We Be Friends?” and “Low Rider.” The band has sold nearly 50 million records worldwide and continues to perform for more than one million fans each year.

The Family Stone is also a throwback to ‘60s-‘70s funk and soul. The band had numerous smash hits, including “I Want to Take You Higher,” “Dance to the Music,” “Everyday People” and “Hot Fun in the Summertime.” Their success earned them an induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993.

Together, the bands will set the tone for an exciting lineup to follow throughout the summer. SugarHouse’s Outdoor Summer Concert Series features free concerts every Friday, Saturday and Sunday through Sept. 7, and is open to everyone ages 21 and older.

To help add to the summer vibe, SugarHouse has turned its waterfront into a beach-themed hangout. Satellite bars stationed along the waterfront will feature beer and tropical drink specials throughout the season, while the Sugar Shack will be selling summery snacks, such as coconut shrimp and fish tacos.

“Our Outdoor Summer Concert Series is going to be a blast!” said Wendy Hamilton, general manager of SugarHouse Casino. “With two great headliners taking the stage on the Delaware River, we’re thrilled to start off the summer the right way. We’re looking forward to music and fun on the waterfront every weekend, all summer long.”

Doors open at 6 p.m. both days, when local bands will take the stage to get the crowd moving. A live DJ will spin tunes starting at 8:15 p.m., and will continue during band breaks throughout the night, ensuring the music and dancing never stops.

The free shows are open to anyone 21 years of age or older.
