RowHome Magazine Announces Hamilton as Annual Community Service Award Recipient

PHILADELPHIA — Aug. 8, 2013 — SugarHouse Casino is proud to announce that its general manager, Wendy Hamilton, has been selected as a 2013 Blue Sapphire Award recipient from Philadelphia RowHome Magazine. Hamilton was selected for her “passion and commitment to the City of Philadelphia” and immeasurable influence on its community of neighborhoods.

She will be given this year’s “Community Service Award” at a special black-tie dinner gala on Nov. 13 at Vie, sponsored by Cescaphe Event Group. The annual award program honors individuals who have helped preserve the unique traditions that define Philly’s culture, history and diversity of lifestyles.

Hamilton was chosen for her efforts on behalf of Philly’s casino, most notably for coming to the rescue of one of the city’s oldest traditions – the New Year’s Day Mummers Parade – which the selection committee noted was a tribute to every Mummer, past and present, who has made the trek up Broad Street to ring in the New Year.

“Wendy has answered the call from many business groups and community advocates who have come to rely on her professional input and friendly demeanor at numerous meetings and events throughout the region,” said Dorette Rota Jackson, publisher of RowHome Magazine. “Her continued outreach in Philadelphia communities is appreciated by those who live, work and play here.”

In addition to being honored at the event, Hamilton will also be featured on the cover of Philadelphia RowHome Magazine’s “Salute to Service” issue, published in October 2013.

“This award is a reflection of the entire SugarHouse team and their collective efforts in Philly,” Hamilton said. “My thanks to them and to RowHome Magazine for this honor.”

Past Blue Sapphire Award recipients have included former Philadelphia 76ers Coach Doug Collins, Councilman Jim Kenney, Councilman Bob Henon, broadcast journalist Larry Kane, former Philadelphia Eagles Coach Dick Vermeil and legendary disk jockey Jerry Blavat, among others.

Philadelphia RowHome Magazine is a quarterly publication with more than 40,000 readers and a growing network of businesses throughout the region.
