Casino’s Double-Decker Bus Takes Hammer of Glory on Tour of City
PHILADELPHIA — May 28, 2013 — For the second year in a row, Philly’s casino will be taking the iconic “Hammer of Glory” on a tour of the city’s bars via its double-decker bus to officially kick-off Philly Beer Week on Friday, May 31.
Philly Beer Week (PBW), established in 2008, is the largest beer celebration of its kind in the U.S. The week-long event highlights the region’s diverse beer scene, world class breweries, neighborhood taverns and the rich beer history of Philadelphia.
The Hammer of Glory (HOG) will be taken on a bar tour, culminating in a special opening tap ceremony at the Independence Visitor’s Center to commemorate the celebration, happening through June 9.
Guests are invited throughout the day to hop aboard the casino’s bus with the SugarHouse Sweeties as it travels to the Beer Week bars. It will be making its stop at the casino around 1:45 p.m., when General Manager Wendy Hamilton will accept the HOG as it continues the journey.
During the HOG’s SugarHouse visit, guests can enjoy craft beers and $1 hot dogs while members of the Mummers perform.
“Philly is definitely a beer town, and SugarHouse has its own ale on tap,” Hamilton said. “This annual tradition is a great way to celebrate the many breweries and bars throughout our city, so of course our casino was on board. Cheers to Philly!”
In addition to providing the official mode of transportation for the HOG, SugarHouse will host two Victory Beer dinners as part of the lineup of events throughout the week.
On June 2 and 9, guests can enjoy dinner with a Victory representative at the casino’s Refinery restaurant and bar to learn all about the local brewery’s creations. Plus, SugarHouse’s new executive chef, Michael Sokoloski, has prepared a Victory-inspired, four-course menu including items such as an heirloom tomato salad in a Victory V Twelve dressing and a mesquite-grilled skirt steak marinated in Victory Hop Devil. Each course is specially paired with a different Victory beer. It is $40 to attend, and guests can RSVP by calling 215-717-3894.
Throughout the week, SugarHouse will also have food and beer specials on its PBW menu at The Refinery. Guests who purchase $10 of food and beverage from the menu will receive $25 match play.
