Casino volunteers spread cheer with ice cream social and candy gram delivery
Pittsburgh — Feb. 12, 2025 — Rivers Casino Pittsburgh’s Rivers Gives team will celebrate National Salute to Veteran Patients Week on Thursday, Feb. 13, by hosting an ice cream social and sharing candy grams with heartfelt messages for hospitalized veterans at the Southwestern Veterans’ Center in Pittsburgh.
Casino volunteers will serve ice cream and distribute the cards to brighten the veterans’ day. The event honors U.S. military veterans with gestures of appreciation.
Located just outside downtown Pittsburgh in Allegheny County, SWVC provides a tranquil living environment while remaining close to the city’s rich history and premier entertainment offerings. More than just a residence, SWVC offers exceptional care through its dedicated staff — many of whom are veterans themselves—and fosters a strong connection with the community through visits from service members and veteran organizations.
“We are grateful for Rivers Casino’s support in recognizing and honoring our veterans,” said Brian Beach, volunteer resource coordinator at SWVC. “Events like this give our patients a chance to enjoy a special moment and feel appreciated for their service.”

Rivers Gives is the casino’s long-running community outreach program, in which casino staffers report to work at a local nonprofit instead of the gaming floor.
In December, Rivers Gives volunteers partnered with the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, helping sort and pack food for families in need during the holiday season.
