RIVERS CASINO PITTSBURGH’S RIVERS GIVES TEAM PARTNERS WITH MANCHESTER CITIZENS CORPORATION AND MANCHESTER HISTORIC SOCIETY ON COMMUNITY CLEANUP
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PITTSBURGH — May 27, 2024 — The Rivers Gives team at Rivers Casino Pittsburgh is gearing up for another service day, slated for Tuesday, May 28. This time, the casino will partner with Manchester Citizens Corporation and Manchester Historic Society.
As part of the casino’s long-running community engagement program, volunteers will collaborate with Manchester Citizens Corporation and Manchester Historic Society from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on a series of landscaping projects centered around community beautification and general cleanup in the Manchester neighborhood.
Manchester Citizens Corporation (MCC) is one of the nation’s oldest and most sophisticated community development organizations. Community leaders formed the corporation in 1965 to create a neighborhood-based approach in response to widespread blight and abandonment. MCC operates within the Manchester Historic District, which is Pittsburgh’s largest historic district under the National Register of Historic Places, preserved for its early 19th-century-built late Victorian-style houses.
“The Rivers Gives volunteers’ efforts will greatly contribute to the beautification and upkeep of our neighborhood, highlighting the importance and impact of our ongoing community partnership,” said LaShawn Burton-Faulk, executive director of MCC.
Manchester Historic Society (MHS), founded in 1996, helps preserve and promote the history of Manchester. MHS’ initial focus was on encouraging the retention and restoration of historic homes in the neighborhood, but its mission has expanded to supporting Manchester by organizing and participating in annual cleanup days, showcasing the neighborhood’s success stories during MHS’ annual house tour and supporting community organizations and projects.
“We’re thrilled to have Rivers Team Members join us to help tidy up the Manchester area,” said Linda Hansen, president of MHS. “The time and contributions of the casino volunteers are greatly appreciated.”
Each month, as part of Rivers Gives, casino Team Members participate in service projects that benefit the Pittsburgh community. Most recently, Rivers Gives Team Members partnered with the National Aviary and were given the opportunity to bring their children for Take Your Child to Work Day.
“We’re tremendously grateful to both MCC and MHS for allowing us to join forces with their organizations for the day,” said Rahmon Hart, director of community relations at Rivers Casino. “The work their teams do is essential for keeping the Manchester community thriving.”
