RIVERS CASINO PITTSBURGH’S “RIVERS GIVES” TEAM
SPENDS VOLUNTEER HOURS WITH THE WOODLANDS

PITTSBURGH — June 27, 2023 — Team Members from Rivers Casino Pittsburgh will be volunteering with The Woodlands on Wednesday, June 28, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Team Members will assist in a variety of outdoor projects, including weeding and painting, that will get the grounds and facilities ready for their summer programs.

The Woodlands is a place where children and adults with disabilities and chronic illnesses find the freedom and empowerment to experience programs that enrich their lives. Fully accessible and barrier-free facilities open new doors to safe, inclusive and engaging participant opportunities. The staff is committed to facilitating social, cultural, environmental, and recreational growth through hands-on experiences.

“The Woodlands organization holds a special place in my heart. They provide such pivotal programming  for individuals with disabilities and   chronic illnesses,” said Dr. Rahmon Hart, director of community relations at Rivers Casino Pittsburgh. “Our team loves spending time there.”

At The Woodlands, differences don’t mean limitations and everyone is encouraged to discover a whole new world of possibilities and independence. Programs offered are safe, inclusive experiences that provide development for participants with all disabilities – while caregivers have a chance for a welcome respite.

“The Rivers Gives volunteers never fail to show up with a positive attitude and ready to help us,” said Laura Thomas, special events and corporate relations manager at The Woodlands. “There’s no better time than now to have the Rivers team here to help us with a variety of outdoor projects.”

Rivers Gives is the casino’s long-running community outreach program, in which casino staffers report to work at a local nonprofit instead of the gaming floor. Earlier this spring, Rivers Gives volunteers also worked with Hosanna House relocating a portion of fencing.
