RIVERS CASINO PITTSBURGH’S “RIVERS GIVES” TEAM
VOLUNTEERED WITH SOUTHWESTERN VETERANS’ CENTER
PITTSBURGH — Dec. 22, 2022 — “Rivers Gives” volunteers from Rivers Casino Pittsburgh geared up for the holidays and spread cheer. On Wednesday, Dec. 21, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Rivers Gives team volunteered with Southwestern Veterans’ Center where Team Members visited residents of the center to give out gifts and sing Christmas carols.
Southwestern Veterans’ Center is one of six veterans homes operated by the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs provides military veterans and their spouses with the care and support they need to live an active and healthy life with as much independence as possible. The levels of care are tailored to the specific health needs of the residents and are supplemented with an array of services that include medical, clinical, and nursing services; drug and nutritional therapy; rehabilitative services such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, and recreational therapy; dental services; and social services.
“This is somewhere we love going every year,” said Dr. Rahmon Hart, director of community relations at Rivers Casino Pittsburgh. “The holidays are a great time to really show our love to the surrounding Pittsburgh community.”
“We couldn’t be more grateful to the Rivers Gives team for coming and spending time with our residents…especially during this time of year,” said Brian Beach, volunteer resource coordinator at the PA Department of Military & Veteran Affairs. “What an awesome way to spread cheer and get in the holiday spirit.”
Rivers Gives is the casino’s long-running community outreach program, in which casino Team Members report to work at a local nonprofit instead of the gaming floor. Earlier this season, Rivers Gives volunteers also worked with the Salvation Army and WTAE’s Project Bundle Up.
