Rivers Gives and Allegheny CleanWays Reunite for Cleanup
June 27 marks a decade of collaboration for shoreline and trail tidying

PITTSBURGH — June 26, 2024 — Rivers Casino Pittsburgh’s Rivers Gives volunteers are gearing up for a day of river and trail remediation on Thursday, June 27, with the casino’s longstanding partner in cleanup, Allegheny CleanWays (ACW).

From 9 a.m. to noon, Rivers Gives volunteers will assist in removing accumulated debris and polluted recyclables from the shoreline of the Ohio River and the Heritage Trail running behind the casino.

With more than two decades of award-winning environmental services and initiatives under its belt, Allegheny CleanWays has removed more than 5.4 million pounds of debris, 190,000 pounds of metal and recyclables, and 44,000 tires from land and waterways across the community.

Notable volunteer-driven ACW initiatives include water-based cleanup program “The Tireless Project,” focused on extracting accumulated debris from local riverbanks and shorelines; “DumpBusters,” a weekly land remediation program aimed at eliminating illegal dumpsites throughout the county; and various outreach events engaging residents and school districts in organized cleanup activities and positive discussions about environmental impact.

“We applaud Rivers Casino’s ongoing commitment to keeping our community clean and environmentally focused,” said Michelle Lawler, development director at ACW. “We’re always grateful for the volunteers’ time, enthusiasm and energy.”

“ACW plays an important role in local environmental efforts, creating innovative solutions to combat pollution throughout the area,” said Rahmon Hart, director of community relations at Rivers Casino. “As always, we’re enthusiastic about teaming up with ACW to maintain the beauty of our trails and waterways.”

Rivers Gives is the casino’s long-running community outreach program, in which casino staffers report to work at a local nonprofit instead of the gaming floor. June 27 marks 10 years of annual service days with ACW by the Rivers Gives team.
